GHIZELA Enslin

Ghizela started playing tennis at age 8. A few years later (2003) she played fed cup and junior Wimbledon. 2005 saw her receiving a tennis scholarship at the University of Tennesee in the USA and playing division one colleague tennis.

Ghizela did her BA degree with a minor in political science. Coaching since 2009 and obtaining TSA Pro # (new pro) qualification. She is actively involved in coaches education. She did her TSA instructor course; as well as play-and-stay and level 1 instructor. Eventually she found her home here with us at BUTC in 2013.

ANNETTE du Plooy

Annette Van Zyl (born 25 September 1943 in Pretoria), also known by her married name as Annette du Plooy, is a South African former tennis player. She was ranked in the top ten female players during the mid 1960s, and in 1966 she won the French Open Mixed Doubles title with Frew McMillan.

Between 1964 and 1976 Van Zyl played in 11 ties for the South African Federation Cup team and compiled a 12–7 win-los record. According to A. Wallis Myers of the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail, Van Zyl was ranked in the world top ten in 1965, 1966, and 1968, reaching a career high of World No. 6 in those rankings in 1965 and 1966.

Jakes & Philemon

Jacob and Phillemon Dibakwane have been members of the Brooklyn Tennis Club since 1990 and after the amalgamation of Brooklyn and Union Club in 1992, they are still at the Club.

They grew up in Pretoria where their father worked at Berea Club for more than 50 years as the Factotum at the Tennis Club.


Initially they were only part of the Factotum Team who maintains the Club and grounds but always strived for something more in life. Therefore both Jacob (also known as Jakes), and Phillemon took on the challenge to become qualified, licensed and registered Play and Stay Trainers.
